The Herat-Kandahar highway was opened today after a 16-day protest by the protesting drivers.
Herat Governor Abdul Qayyum Rahimi, together with the Chief Security Officer of the Ministry of Interior, Herat Provincial Council Deputy and Farah Deputy Governor, met with the drivers today and assured them of their complaints.
Herat's governor says the protests have damaged Herat's industry and economy.
Under the guidance of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, violators and those who attempt to extort the highways will seriously be panished.
Officials and authorities of the check points charged with extortion have been dismissed and referred to the justice and judicial organs, the MOI security official said.
The protest began about sixteen days after some drivers alleged extortion on the Herat-Kabul highway.
