President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met yesterday with UN envoy to Afghanistan Tadamichi Yamamoto at Presidential Palace.
In the meeting attended also by ambassadors of Britain, Sweden and Finland to Afghanistan, both sides discussed Afghanistan peace process and role of women in political and social sectors.
UN envoy to Afghanistan said that the government of Afghanistan should strongly support women’s presence in peace talks and all meetings relevant to peace process.
In the meeting, President Ghani spoke related to commitment of Afghanistan government in the field of women’s presence in all levels of the government in the past five years, recalling of the government’s initiative for holding the first Women Loya Jirga.
Recalling also the 30% presence of women in Peace Consultative Jirga, the country’s President said that most of the Jirga’s committees were chaired by Afghan women.
Praising Afghan women for their expanding presence in the cabinet, various institutions including Afghanistan embassies and the country’s representation in the UN, President Ghani stressed that the government was committed to strengthening the role of Afghan women in all sectors of the government.
