The Transparent Election Foundation of Afghanistan (TEFA) says the decision of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) for recounting the Presidential election votes is contrary against the 19th article of the amended election law.
TEFA in a press release on Sunday said the recounting process of votes without considering the previous election principles will lead to crisis.
“Any type of validation for votes without biometric information outside of a given election day (7:00 am to 5:00 pm) can provide grounds for rejecting the election results for the electoral teams and the Afghan people,” TEFA said.
According to the press release, TEFA voiced serious concern over the electoral calendar regarding the announcement of the preliminary election results, saying violation in announcement of primary and final result of election results could provide grounds for public mistrust and a new crisis similar to the 2014 crisis.
The Election Foundation also expressed concern over the technical process of election which is heading toward politicization which is a major blow to Afghanistan fledgling democracy.
TEFA has called on the electoral bodies to comply with the election law, regulations and principles which have been previously approved and ensure the transparency of the election process to the people.
