Afghan Presidential election candidates council accuses IEC of fraud

خبرگزاری Herat Afghan Voice Agency(AVA) , 25 Oct 2019 - 8:29

Post-election atmosphere in Afghanistan remains volatile due to political tensions and election fraud allegations.

The election was held in late September and the country’s Independent Election Commission had three weeks to announce the final results. But the commission delayed the planned release of the results citing issues in collecting and transferring massive amounts of data to the main IEC computer server from biometric devices used to record voter fingerprints and pictures.
The delay has raised concerns among some candidates.
The Council of Presidential Candidates says it is concerned about possible government efforts to influence the results of the election.
The council of presidential election candidates says, the next government must be formed through people’s votes in order to successfully confront numerous challenges that have already pressed the nation in different ways.
The Afghan government has repeatedly rejected allegations that it is seeking to influence the election results.
Despite serious concerns over the IEC’s involvement in fraud, the Afghan government and some international bodies have repeatedly called on all candidates to wait for and respect the IEC's decision as the only authorized body regarding the Afghan election.
