The Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Washington is diligently on the path forward in Afghanistan, reaffirming close cooperation with Afghanistan on peace process.
Secretary Pompeo said in a Twitter post President Donald Trump convened Vice Presidence Mike Pence, Defense Secretary Mark Esper, National Security Adviser John Bolton, U.S. envoy for Afghan peace Zalmay Khalilzad, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford and CIA director Gina Haspel on Friday.
Furthermore, Secretary Pompeo said he also attended the meeting to discuss the status of negotiations for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.
“Led by the President, we are working diligently on the path forward in Afghanistan,” he added.
Secretary Pompeo also added “In close cooperation w/Afghanistan, we remain committed to achieving a comprehensive peace agreement, including a reduction in violence & a ceasefire, ensuring Afghan soil is never again used to threaten the U.S. or her allies, and bringing Afghans together to work towards peace.”
