Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has given parliament two days to resolve dispute over who should take speaker role or he will refer the issue to the Supreme Court, a top Afghan official said on Saturday.

The Lower House held an election to choose its speaker nearly three weeks ago with Mir Rahman Rahmani and Kamal Nasir Osoli as contenders, but the new speaker has yet to take seat.
Farooq Wardak, the State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, told 1TV that the president cannot remain indifferent to the deadlock in parliament, adding he would ask the Supreme Court to step in if the parliament fails to resolve the dispute within two days.
Meanwhile, some lawmakers have said that the presidency has tasked a commission to find a way to resolve the existing dispute in the parliament involving the Supreme Court issuing a ruling. The commission includes representatives of the presidency, Chief Executive Office, Supreme Court and State Ministry for Parliamentary Affairs.
Some members of the parliament have said that the Supreme Court has so far refused to interfere in the issue.
The court declined 1TV’s request for comment.
