Presidential runner Mohammad Haneef Atmar reiterated demand for the formation of a caretaker government after 22nd of May which is the final date of the term of government of national unity.
Speaking during a press conference in Kabul earlier today, Atmar emphasized that he and other presidential candidates demand the formation of a caretaker government warning that persistent pressures by President Ghani on Supreme for extension of his term would drag the country towards political instability.
In other parts of his speech to the media, Atmar accused the government of having no will to hold transparent elections or support peace process.
Atmar further added that the presidential candidates will maintain pressures on government until their demands are met.
This comes as ARG Presidential Palace had earlier rejected the suggestion by presidential candidates for the formation of a caretaker government, insisting that only the Supreme Court of the country can interpret the law.
A presidential spokesperson Haroon Chakhansuri had earlier said the political parties and figures cannot interpret the law as per their own desire.
Chakhansuri further added that all other arrangements including ‘caretaker government’ are against the constitution and the system of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, insisting that the mechanisms recommended by presidential candidates have no legal basis.
However, Atmar said the presidential candidates have consulted with the lawyers regarding the decision of supreme court to extend the term of the current government.
According to Atmar, the lawyers have ruled out the decision by supreme court as the court cannot interpret the constitution of the country.
