India on Monday handed over 100 modern and electric wheelchairs to the soldiers of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces who have lost their limbs while serving in armed forces ranks.
AVA- “Ambassador of India to Afghanistan, donated 100 Electronic Wheelchairs Equipped with Modern Technology, in a ceremony that took place at Ministry of Defense headquarter, to the disabled personnel of ANDSF who have sacrificed and lost their body parts defending their country against terrorism,” the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
The statement further added “In this ceremony acting Defense Minister Mr. Abdullah Khalid, considered India one of Afghanistan’s top friend counties and thanked Indian people and government for their unconditional help and support to the ANDSF.”
India has played a major role in the reconstruction of Afghanistan since the fall of the Taliban regime and has invested over $2 billion in various reconstruction and infrastructure projects.
The government of India pledged a fresh aid package of $1 billion to support the reconstruction projects in Afghanistan during a visit by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in late 2016.
The two countries have also developed a high level of cooperation in terms of military and security during the recent years.
