Mohammad Haneef Atmar, former national security advisor has announced that no one from his electoral team will participate in upcoming Consultative Peace Jirga (Assembly of tribal elders) which is due to be organized later this month.
Calling the ongoing preparations for Consultative Loya Jirga as non-transparent or opaque being led by exclusive team of ARG Presidential Palace, Mr. Atmar issued a statement no clarifications have been given regarding the objectives of the Jirga and there are no guarantees that the gathering would be organized in a free and fair manner.
Atmar further added that the process of preparations for Consultative Jirga for Peace is being taken foward without consultations with the prominent political and national movements and figures which he believes cannot guarantee a real Loya Jirga (Assembly of Tribal Elders), insisting that the principle of consultations forms the foundation of Loya Jirgas which will have a direct affect on its outcome.
Atmar also added that his team emphasizes on its previous announcement, rejects the Consultative Peace Jirga, and considers it a waste of time and an illegal attempt and electoral campaign by the government.
This comes as Chief Executive Abdullah had earlier announced that the members of his electoral team will not participate in Consultative Loya Jirga.
