The U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad reacted to Taliban claims regarding the ‘imposed war on Afghanistan’.
“We did not impose this war. Afghanistan has been at war for decades, at times with each other. Tens of thousands of innocent civilians have died. Rather than another season of fighting, Afghans are demanding a new way forward,” Ambassador Khalilzad said in a statement posted in his official Twitter account.
Ambassador Khalilzad further added “The US entered peace talks b/c more war is not the answer. During talks I’ve proposed ways to reduce violence. By refusing to work w/ us to end the killing, the Talibs are prolonging it. Let Afghan people judge whether Talib statements encouraging more violence is way forward.”
This comes as Taliban group had earlier claimed that the United States has imposed the war on Afghanistan.
The latest accusation by Taliban group against the United States followed a day after the U.S. forces commander in Afghanistan Gen. Scott Miller and Ambassador Khalilzad strongly reacted to and condemned the announcement of the latest spring offensive by Taliban.
