Afghanistan's Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah cited a joke about election in the country on Monday as he regretted delays in the announcement of results from October parliamentary poll.
In 2014 presidential election, one had said that if the population of Afghanistan equalled that of China, election results would be announced on doomsday,” Abdullah said addressing regular ministerial council meeting. “Unfortunately, parliamentary elections have also faced problems.”
Commenting about the Independent Election Commission’s decision to postpone presidential election for three months to July, Abdullah said that the decision was taken due to technical issues, not peace talks as perceived by some.
As per timetable, the IEC was expected to announce final results from parliamentary election on December 20. However, it has still not been able to announce complete preliminary results from the vote.
