Their rivalry has lasted years, but it seems Afghan and African drug cartels have buried their differences and joined hands to supply contraband in Delhi and north India.
AVA- Police found this new drug smuggling trend after they busted a heroin ring and arrested an Afghan and an Ivory Coast national. The accused, Asadullah (27) from Kandahar and Moussa Zie (30) from Yamoussoukro, gave the shocking details about their alliance. DCP (special cell) Pramod Kushwah said they seized 8kg of heroin worth Rs 32 crore from them. Asadullah lived in south Delhi’s Hauz Rani, while Zie stayed in Nihar Vihar of west Delhi.
The latest trend has left police worried as many modules had been busted by them by taking benefit of the rivalry between the two cartels. The cartels used to provide information about their rival gangs, but this could change with the new modus operandi, police said.
ACP Attar Singh and inspector Ishwar Singh’s team had been trailing this heroin cartel for the past three months. On January 8, they got a tip-off that Asadullah would deliver a huge consignment to a contact near Geetanjali bus stop in Malviya Nagar around 1pm. He was nabbed with 6kg heroin. Zie was nabbed from near a hospital on January 9 with 2kg heroin.
“Asadullah disclosed that he brought heroin from Afghanistan and handed it over to the Africans. The Afghans smuggled heroin by swallowing capsules. Some of them also hid it in secret cavities of their bags,” Kushwah said. Members of Asadullah’s cartel have supplied over 100kg of heroin in Delhi in the past one year.
Zie said that he procured the last consignment of heroin from Afghan carriers a week ago. He came to India in July 2017 on a tourist visa, but didn’t return when it expired after six months. The cartel has been supplying drugs to Canada, England, France, South Africa, among other countries through courier.
