Twelve Afghan police have been killed in two separate attacks in southern Kandahar province, officials said Sunday.
The first attack happened onSaturdayin Khake Chopan area of Maiwand district. It involved a policeman turning his gun on his colleagues, killing five of them and injuring another, said Qasia Azad, an aide of the provincial acting police chief.
The infiltrator fled after carrying out the attack, he said.
Hours later during the night, militants attacked a police post in Saro Sahano area of Shorabak district, killing seven border police and injuring three others, the provincial governor’s office said in a statement.
Seven insurgents were killed while five more were wounded in the counterattack, the statement said.
