As many as 30 Taliban militants have been killed in a raid carried out by Afghan forces in eastern Nangarhar province last night, officials said Saturday.
The operation was conducted by forces of the National Directorate of Security in Zawi area of Khogyani district, the provincial governor’s office said in a statement.
A commander of Taliban’s “special forces” branch, known as the “Red Unit”, was also among the dead, the statement said.
Five insurgents hideouts with rockets, hand grenades, Kalashiknov rifles and motorcycles were destroyed in the raid.
The dead were mostly from Helmand, Logar, Kandahar. The operation caused no civilian casualties, the statement said.
