President Ashraf Ghani on Monday ordered deployment of reinforcements in central-eastern Ghazni province after dozens of people were killed in Taliban offensives recently.
On Sunday, local officials reported death of 15 civilians and 10 commandos in Jaghori district, where the fighting began since Wednesday. Malistan district has also come under attack by the insurgent.
In protest, hundreds of people took to the streets in Kabul asking the government to clear the districts of the insurgents.
The National Security Council Office said that reinforcements including commandos, quick reaction forces and army’s 111th Capital Division were heading to Ghazni.
It also said that airstrikes continued with more intensity after a pause caused by bad weather. It confirmed 30 Afghan forces including commandos suffered casualties in Jaghori battle, but said 117 Taliban militants were also killed.
According to NSC, Chief of Army Staff, General Sharif Yaftali, will visit Ghazni to assess the situation.
