Afghanistan's Ministry of Economy has finalized a strategy that aims to double annual growth rate of gross domestic product by 2025.
The six-year strategy titled Productive Afghanistan Strategy aims to increase GDP growth rate by strengthening domestic production.
In its initial stage of implementation, the strategy will focus on 10 different types of domestic products, mostly from agriculture sector, for strengthening.
The strategy aims to make domestic products including wheat, dairy as substitute for imports.
With the implementation of the strategy, Afghanistan’s annual GDP growth is expected to be increased from 2.4 to 5.5 percent, the ministry said.
Afghanistan economy is largely reliant on international aid. Agriculture is a key sector which accounts for a quarter of the country’s economy and agricultural products constitute 90 percent of the country’s exports.
Akbar Rustami, a spokesman for Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, said that that rate of production of wheat in Afghanistan increases 4-6 percent annually.
