Afghan peace council chief meets Iran FM in Tehran

Chairman of Afghanistan's High Peace Council, Mohammad Karim Khalili, met with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Jawad Zarif during visit to Tehran on Monday.
During the meeting, Khalili said that Afghanistan is grateful of Iran’s support for peace and stability in Afghanistan and expects it to be continued, Iran’s official IRNA news agency reported.
For his part, Zarif said dialogue is the only solution to the Afghan conflict, adding the peace process belongs to the Afghans.
He said that Iran backs HPC’s efforts for national unity and speeding up the peace process.
Referring to the threat of Daesh in Afghanistan, Zarif voiced Iran’s readiness to help facilitate the country’s peace process.
The visit comes days before Afghan HPC will travel to Russia to attend multilateral talks in Moscow on Friday. Iran and the Taliban are also expected to attend.
