The voting process for the parliamentary elections kicked off in Afghanistan earlier today amid tight security measures.
The voting is underway across the country except southern Kandahar and southeastern Ghazni province although reports indicate that some polling stations are still closed in some parts of the country.
President Ghani casted his vote in Kabul along with the First lady Rula Ghani and some other high level government officials.
In regards to the elections in Ghazni province, President Ghani said Vice President Sarwar Danish, Deputy Chief Executive Mohammad Khan and other senior officials are busy to set a date for the elections.
He also added that the ellections in Kandahar would be organized a week later due to the recent tragic incident.
At least 8.8 million people have obtained voter cards to cast votes for 2,500 candidates who are running for the Lower House of the Parliament, Wolesi Jirga.
In the meantime, the Independent Election Commission officials are saying that the polling stations would remain open until 4pm today.
