Unidentified gunmen have shot dead an independent candidate in the upcoming Wolesi Jirga election in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Wednesday.
Aziz Ahmad Azizi, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place at the limits of 2nd police district in Kandahar City on Tuesday evening.
Nasir Mobarez succumbed to his hard wounds at the hospital after being shot by unknown assailants, he said, adding the attackers managed to flee the area but police had launched a search for killers.
There was no immediate claim responsibility for the attack.
