Protesters shut down election offices in three major Afghan cities

خبرگزاری Afghn Voice Agency(AVA) , 15 Sep 2018 - 16:53

Protestors loyal to Grand National Coalition of Afghanistan on Saturday shut down election offices in the cities of Mazar-i-Sharif, Herat and Kandahar.

AVA- GNCA has insisted that the coalition be involved in overseeing the elections and that the biometric system be used in the process.
“We want a transparent election that involves biometric system,” a protestor said in Kandahar. “The officials say there is no enough time for biometric system, no problem, the parliament’s term can be extended.”
In Mazar-i-Sharif, protestors shouted “we don’t want an election full of fraud” as they closed the office of Independent Election Commission.
“The office will remain closed until we are assured that the election will be held in transparent manner,” a protestor said.
Afghanistan’s long-delayed parliamentary vote is scheduled to be held on October 20.
Shah Hussain Murtazawi, deputy spokesman for the president, suggested that “spoiling” election process is supporting the Taliban.
Hafizullah Hashimi, a member of IEC, also said that closure of provincial offices of the commission was not acceptable.
