More than 2 million new ID papers entered into database: ACCRA

More than two million newly issued national identity papers were entered into database over the past two weeks, Afghanistan's Central Civil Registration Authority said Thursday.


AVA- The nation-wide campaign to distribute ID papers had been organized in preparations for parliamentary and district council elections due to be held in October. Nearly five million such documents were distributed in the campaign.
Humayoun Muhtat, head of ACCRA, said that the campaign did not cover 30 districts due to security reasons.
The official said that most of the register books had been transported from provinces to capital Kabul. According to the official, getting the ID papers details into database would help remove fake papers.
Afghanistan’s long-delayed parliamentary and district council elections are scheduled to be held on October. It will follow a presidential election in 2014 that was marred by accusations of mass fraud.
There have been claims of irregularities in the recent ID papers distribution campaign and election stickers being pasted on fake ID papers.
Head of the Independent Election Commission, Gula Jan Abdul Badi Sayad, however, rejected the claims attempts at duplicating stickers failed.
Meanwhile, Deputy Interior Minister Abdul Jabar Purduli said that 1,430 had been seized by security forces in various provinces of the country, adding 13 culprits had been arrested.
