The Ambassador to the United States John R. Bass has hailed the former National Security Adviser of Afghanistan Hanif Atmar for his work, mainly for the protection of Afghanistan and the strengthening the Kabul-Washington strategic partnership.
Our thanks and admiration to former NSA Atmar for his strong, principled work to protect Afghanistan and strengthen our partnership. His dedicated service to the nation is an example for all,” Ambassador Bass said in a statement posted in his Twitter account.
“I look forward to working with my former counterpart in Washington, mohib, another Afghan patriot, as he assumes his new duties to promote the security and welfare of the Afghan people,” he added.
Atmar announced his resignation earlier last evening, describing the existing political issues as the main motive behind his decision to step down.
He has previously served as the minister of interior, minister of education, and minister of rural rehabilitation and development.
Atmar was considered as one of the key officials close to President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani after the formation of the government of national unity.
