Security forces have freed 10 people from a Taliban prison in the Musa Qala district of southern Helmand province, an official said on Wednesday.
Omar Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that commandos raided the Taliban jail in the district late on Tuesday night.
According to him, 10 people were released, including four policemen and six civilians. Two suspects were arrested and some narcotics and ammunition also sized by the security forces.
Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi confirmed Afghan and American forces carried out an operation in Musa Qala district.
He claimed dozens of soldiers suffered casualties and rebels and civilians escaped unhurt in the firefight. However, he did not comment on the raid on the Taliban-run jail.
