Dozens of women, children kidnapped by ISIS in southern Syria: monitor

خبرگزاری Afghn Voice Agency(AVA) , 31 Jul 2018 - 15:39

The ISIS extremist group has kidnapped at least 36 Druze women and children since it attacked their village last week in Syria's Sweida Province, a monitor said Monday.

AVA- On Wednesday, massive suicide blasts and shootings claimed by the ISIS left over 250 people killed in the provincial capital and nearby villages.
"Twenty women and 16 children were kidnapped by (ISIS) on July 25. Four of them managed to flee to Druze areas, two others died," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
That left 14 women and 16 children in ISIS captivity, said the observatory head Rami Abdel-Rahman. Another 17 men were unaccounted for, but it was unclear whether they were also held hostage.
According to Syrian news outlet Sweida24, the 36 civilians were kidnapped Wednesday from the village of Al-Shabki, in the eastern hinterlands of Sweida Province.
The ISIS has not claimed responsibility for the kidnappings and no details about them could be found on its propaganda channels.
Sweida, mainly government-held and populated with the Druze minority, had been insulated from the other conflict-stricken areas in the country since 2011.
The Druze, who represents 3 percent of Syria's population, are seen as heretics by extremist groups, including the ISIS.
