‘Faulty elections’ will have dangerous pitfalls: Hekmatyar
Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, leader of Hezbi Islami Afghanistan, has raised concerns that elections with the ongoing faulty system will have dangerous pitfalls and will pave the ground once again for interference of outsiders.
AVA- In his address in a news conference, Hekmatyar said the forthcoming elections will be inundated with rigging as many counterfeited Tazkiras and stickers have already been distributed. “A vote with such faulty pre-election campaign will have ‘chaotic consequences’ and cast shadow on legitimacy of elections.
He argued that a mere 3,600,000 people have registered thus far to vote, although the government lies that 8.6 million people are registered. Although Hekmatyar is against the incumbent government calling it “a failure”, he also opposed the idea of forming an interim administration, insisting that the government must complete its term.
Hekmatyar also pointed out the role the political parties play in elections, warning that nobody can negate them.
