The Taliban group has reportedly reshuffled the group’s leadership council after Eid Al-Fitr ceasefire, the provincial police chief of Kandahar General Abdul Raziq has said.
According to Gen. Raziq, the group has removed Amir Khan Mutaqi from his post as Taliban leader for cultural and information affairs due to the negligence he committed to share the information among the Taliban ranks.
He said the group has appointed the Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid as the new Taliban leader for cultural and information affairs.
Gen. Raziq further added that Mutaqi has been appointed as the chief of staff of the Taliban group supreme leader Mawlavi Hebatullah Akhundzada’s office.
The Taliban group has not commented regarding the new changes so far.
This comes as reports emerged earlier suggesting that selfie pictures taken by the Taliban militants during the ceasefire period have sparked anger among the Taliban group leadership.
A senior Taliban commander informed regarding the growing anger among the Taliban leadership over the selfie pictures the group’s fighters have taken with the security forces, government officials, and ordinary civilians.
“Last night, an emergency meeting was called and all the commanders were informed and directed to take strict disciplinary action against all those Taliban members who visited citizens and took pictures with the Afghan authorities,” a senior unnamed Taliban official told Reuters.
