Afghan governor of central Logar province on Sunday pledged release of Taliban prisoners after the parties announced ceasefire.
The pledge was made as Governor Mohammad Anwar Khan Ishaqzai telephoned his Taliban counterpart, Mohammad Naeem Akhundzada.
Ishaqzai congratulated the Taliban governor on peace and ceasefire and assured that those imprisoned Taliban members who don’t have criminal record would be released in goodwill gesture, Logar governor’s office said in a statement.
He asked the Taliban shadow governor to follow suit in six districts under their control.
He told Akhundzada to deliver his well wishes and greetings to Taliban leader Hebatullah Akhundzada.
Moreover, he invited the Taliban shadow governor to offer Eid prayers together in the province’s grand mosque.
Akhundzada said that he would ponder over the offer and would act following the Taliban commission’s decision.
Afghan government’s one-week ceasefire starts tomorrow Tuesday. The Taliban’s three-day ceasefire will start on the first day of Eid that is expected to fall on Friday.
