A top Russian presidential aide has warned that the war and violence in Afghanistan will continue for several years in the absence of direct talks between US and Taliban.
AVA- The Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov has urged for the launch of direct talks between US and Taliban in a bid to end the ongoing violence.
He has warned that the US refusal to talk with the group would lead to persistent war and bloodshed for many years in Afghanistan, according to Bloomberg.
The latest remarks by Kabulov regarding direct Us talks with the Taliban follow amid growing criticisms regarding Moscow’s alleged support to the Taliban group.
The Afghan and coalition officials have in the past said that besides Iran and Pakistan, Russia has also supported the Taliban-led insurgency in Afghanistan.
Although Moscow has rejected the allegations regarding the support to Taliban group, Kabulov admitted during an interview in March this year that Moscow was in contact with the Taliban and the contacts were established few year ago amid fears of security threats to Russian citizens.
