At least seven civilians were killed and an eighth wounded as the vehicle they were travelling in struck a roadside bomb in northwestern Faryab province on Sunday.
Taliban ripped through the vehicle carrying shopkeepers in Almar district.
Seven individuals were killed and one wounded, he said, adding an investigation had been launched into the explosion, which occurred in Khwaja Gohar area.
Mohammad Saleh Saleh, the district’s administrative chief, also confirmed the attack and casualties.
Alladdin, the finance director, said one of his relatives was among the dead. All victims were shopkeepers, he added. The Taliban have not yet commented on the attack.
