The NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reaffirmed full support of the alliance to Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism and for empowerment of democracy after a deadly attack targeted a compound of the voter registration.
AVA- Stoltenberg said he strongly condemns the attack on the voter registration compound in the capital as he reaffirmed the support of the alliance to Afghanistan.
“I strongly condemn the attack on a voter registration centre in Kabul. NATO stands with Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism and for democracy,” he said in a Tweet post.
The attack took place on Sunday morning in West of Kabul city after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives in a compound where dozens of people had gathered for the process of identity cards to obtain voter cards.
The Ministry of Interior officials are saying the attack left at least 57 people dead and 119 others wounded.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Interior Najib Danish said at least 22 women and 8 children were among those killed while the identity of two others has not been ascertained.
Danish further added that the attack also left at least 119 wounded including 52 women and 17 children.
According to reports, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group claimed responsibility behind the attack.
