Local Taliban surrenders to Afghan army in Baghlan province

A local leader of the Taliban group has surrendered to the Afghan National Army (ANA) forces in northern Baghlan province of Afghanistan, the Afghan military said Wednesday.


AVA- The 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan Military in the North said the Taliban local leader identified as Aslam surrendered to the Afghan armed forces in Dand-e-Ghori district.
The source further added that Aslam has handed over a AK-47 assault rifle along with its five magazines to the Afghan armed forces.
According to the Shaheen Corps, the Taliban leader surrendered during an operation in Chashe Shir area of the district.
The anti-government armed militant groups including Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far.
In the meantime, the Shaheen Corps said a group of armed robbers led by Shamso was arrested during another operation in northern Kunduz province.
The Shaheen Corps said the individuals were involved in armed robberies on Kunduz-Khanabad highway and were arrested from Kata Khel area.
This comes as the Afghan national defense and security forces are busy conducting counter-terrorism and clearance operations in various provinces of the country including key northern provinces of Baghlan and Kunduz.
