Afghanistan’s National Cricket Team to face host Zimbabwe on Tuesday in the ICC’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018 after losing to Scotland in theiropening Group B match earlier this week.
AVA- Zimbabwe, on Tuesday, will be hoping to capitalise on their biggest threat’s early troubles, ICC reported.
In the meantime, Afghanistan will want to ensure the opening-day stumble remains just that – a stumble. They still possess one of the most feared sides in the tournament, and given their form heading in – apart from beating fellow heavyweights Windies by four wickets in the warm-ups, they also saw off Zimbabwe 4-1 in an ODI series in Sharjah last month – they remain one of the favourites to claim the two ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 spots up for grabs.
Rashid Khan, the captain of the team, has said that the drastic change in playing conditions was the reason behind his team's shock seven-wicket loss to Scotland.
NDTV meanwhile quoted Rashid as saying: "The wicket was difficult to bat on, it wasn't coming good onto the bat," Rashid said, adding that "Later on when the sun came out, it was totally different and it was quite easy to bat on. The toss is really important in these games, but that's not in our hands, there's nothing we can do about that.”
"We needed some wickets in the middle and we didn't do that," Rashid said ahead of Zimbabwe match. “They played really well, had a good partnership and that took the game away from us."
