The Afghan government has approved new provincial governors for the western Farah and northern Parwan provinces days after violent protests forced the former governor of Farah to step down.
AVA- The Independent Directorate of the Local Governance in a statement said Saturday that Abdul Basir Salangi was proposed as the new provincial governor of Farah and has been approved by the Office of the President.
The statement further added that the appointment of Fazaluddin Ayar as the new provincial govenroor of Parwan province was also approved by the presidential palace.
This comes as protests turned violent in western Farah province of Afghanistan last week leaving several people wounded during the clashes.
The former governor of the province Mohammad Arif Shah Jahan in reaction to the violent protests announced his resignation from the post.
He said the residents of the province were not happy from his performance and there he has decided to step down from the provincial political leadership.
Shah Jahan also added that the main motive behind his resignation was to help secure unity among the people.
