Afghan army's chief of staff, Mohammad Sharif Yaftali, on Wednesday rejected report of military meeting over political crisis in northern Balkh province.
AVA- Ata Mohammad Noor has refused to leave the post of Balkh governor even as he was ousted by President Ashraf Ghani a month ago. The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday reported that a meeting was held over military operation to remove Noor from the governor’s if negotiations failed. The report also said that the country’s army chief walked out of the meeting.
“There has been no military meeting about the situation in Mazar-i-Sharif and no military decision has been taken in this regard,” Yaftali told reporters in Kabul.
Yaftali, however, noted that the country’s soldiers are under the command of the country’s commander-in-chief of armed forces, who is President Ashraf Ghani, adding that they would follow orders of the commander.
