Afghanistan’s Upper House approved the controversial amendment bill on 6th article of registering the population records’ law which was previously disapproved by the Lower House also known as Wolesi Jirga.
AVA- The 6th article involving and based on the president legislative decree is proposing the mention of Nationality and Ethnicity in Afghan National Identification Cards or Tazkeera which has gotten so controversial in the country.
“Most of the people are asking for mentioning the “ethnicity” in Tazkeera and many protests have been held across the country. The peoples demands should be taken into consideration”, says Sami Faisal, the secretary of Afghan Senate.
Meanwhile, the Senate Speaker says that any decision about registration of population records should be made based on the people demands.
As the bill had already been disapproved by Afghan Lower House, a joint committee containing both Houses will be created for making a final decision regarding the bill.
