Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has ordered an investigation after a memo from a staff member of his office suggested ethnic bias in the government.
AVA- The memo, by Sawabuddin Makhkah, a senior staff member at Administrative Office of the President, was shared with limited number on Telegram, apparently by mistake, before it was leaked to the media.
It carried instructions to award jobs to members of Ghani’s own Pashtun ethnic group while giving the appearance of diversity.
In a statement Friday, President Ghani ordered the Attorney General’s Office to conduct a comprehensive investigation over the issue, detect the culprits or culprits of the “evil attitude” and act against them according to laws.
He said he strongly regrets over the memo and vowed that he would never allow any individual or institution to harm national unity in the country.
“Afghanistan’s beauty, its strength and stability lies in the existence of ethnic groups and equal peoples of this honored soil and for me there is no bigger honor than representing them proudly,” he said.
