Military solution to war in Afghanistan ruled out

The ongoing conflict in Afghanistan cannot be resolved through military means alone, says a senior Pakistani military official.


AVA- Islamabad and Kabul would continue to work hard for peace in Afghanistan, the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) chairman told a London audience.

“Pakistan has tried and will try its best to partner with all forces towards reconciliation between various factions so that there is peace and stability inside Afghanistan,” he said.

Gen. Zubair Mahmood Hayat warned outside formulas were unlikely to yield positive results and Afghanistan itself could best deal with its domestic problems.

The gathering was also attended by senior officers of the British armed forces and members of defence think-tanks, according to The News International.

“Pakistan has tried and will continue to try its best to partner with all forces towards reconciliation between various factions so that there is peace and stability in Afghanistan,” he said.

A peaceful and stable Afghanistan was in the best interest of Pakistan, he said. "But you cannot have a peaceful Afghanistan if you ... deploy a level of force which actually is counter to reconciliation.

"We have cleared our area and we are in the process of building 900 posts along the Durand Line. We are in the process of building a fence and constructing gates..."
