Daesh insurgents attack Iraqi Embassy in Kabul on Monday. Clashes are still ongoing in the compound.
AVA- At least four Daesh insurgents launched an attack on the Iraqi Embassy in Kabul city on Monday morning in the Ansari area of the city.
Two hours after the insurgents launched the attack, the ministry of interior confirmed the incident.
According to them a suicide bomber first detonated explosives. At least three others then stormed the embassy.
One source said the insurgents were wearing police uniforms when they launched the attack.
The MoI did not however give details regarding casualties but said the embassy staff had been moved to a safe location.
The attack started in PD4 at about 11.10am local time and by 1.30pm clashes between security forces and the insurgents were still underway.
“First a suicide bomber detonated his explosives close to the gate of the embassy while three other insurgents entered inside the compound,” a ministry of interior statement said.
The MoI said the Crisis Response Unit (CRU) was at the scene and that "embassy employees have been moved to a safe location.”
According to the statement “the CRU forces are trying to eliminate the terrorists.”
However, the statement did not provide further details nor give details on casualties.
Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack.
TOLOnews reporter Tamim Hamid who is reporting from the area said explosions and gunfire can still be heard coming from the embassy compound.
Ambulances have also been seen in the area and more security forces keep arriving.
The attack comes a week after at least 35 people were killed in a Taliban suicide attack on a Ministry of Mine’s bus in Kabul.
