Eight workers of Bagram airbase, the U.S. largest military base in Afghanistan, were killed after gunmen attacked them overnight, officials said Tuesday.
AVA_ Two more were wounded in the incident which happened around 11:00p.m. when the assailants opened fire on the vehicle the workers were travelling near the base in central Parwan province.
The victims were transferred to 100-bed hospital in the provincial capital city Charikar, Mohammad Qasim Sangin, the chief physician for the hospital, told 1TV.
The Associated Press citing the provincial governor’s spokesman said that the victims were Afghan security guards who were on their way to work at Bagram airfield.
Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. The militant group has stepped up its attacks in the country recently.
