The Independent Directorate of Local Governance of Afghanistan on Sunday announced that Japan has pledged $13 million in reconstruction and development aid to Afghanistan.
Head of the Independent Directorate of Local Governance, Abdul Khaliq Farahi said the aid will be invested to implement reconstruction and development projects in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.
Mr. Farahi further added that majority of the funds will be spent to build schools, clinics and rehabilitation of roads in Behsud and Surkhrod districts.
The funds will be spent through the Independent Directorate of Local Governance and United Nations office following an agreement signed between the two organizations.
Farahi said the funds will be spent in coordination with the Independent Directorate of Local Governance by United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
This comes as Japan has around $21 million for reconstruction and development projects in coordination with the Independent Directorate of Local Governance in five major cities of Afghanistan.
