Intensification of Tajik-Afghan border security to be discussed at CSTO summit in Sochi Bishkek

The Heads of State will consider the package of documents on the military component up to 2020 on the establishment of air forces of the CSTO.

The heads of the CSTO member states will consider solutions on the development of the military component and assistance provision to improve security on the Tajik-Afghan border at the CSTO summit in Sochi on September 23.

The Heads of State will consider the package of documents on the military component up to 2020 on the establishment of air forces of the CSTO. A report on the situation on the Tajik-Afghan border is planned.

“Suggestions to improve the effectiveness of border security of Tajikistan and Afghanistan will be considered. The situation, emerging on the border and in the Afghan border region, and development tendencies of the situation remain rather negative. The Presidents will consider provision of military-technical assistance to border guards of Tajikistan,” the press service added.

The Collective Security Council includes such states as Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. The summit will be chaired by President Almazbek Atambaev.
