Kerry arrives to discuss drones, Afghanistan

During his stay in Pakistan, the US Secretary of State would hold meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to discuss bilateral issues.

US Secretary of State Senator John Kerry arrived here Wednesday night on a three-day visit to discuss issues ranging from bilateral relations to regional situation.

Senator Kerry was recieved by Director General Foreign Office (America) Dr Sohail, Chief of Protocol Zaheer Ahmed Janjua and other senior officials of the Foreign Ministry. US Ambassador Richard Olson was also present.

During his stay in Pakistan, the US Secretary of State would hold meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to discuss bilateral issues.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday presided over a high-level meeting, attended by Chief of Army Staff and DG Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) which discussed and finalized points for discussion with US Secretary of State John Kerry.

There was exchange of views and consultations on recent incidents of terrorism besides Pak-Afghan relations and situation at the borders. The meeting was attended by Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan, Advisor to PM on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Special Assistant to PM, Tariq Fatimi and CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif. Meanwhile, one-on-one meeting between Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani and PM Nawaz was also held.

The two leaders decided to raise the issue of drone attack with the US as per the government policy. New priorities of Pakistan relations with the US were also chalked out in the meeting. During the meeting, the army chief apprised the prime minister of his recommendations on issues of strategic importance.

The two decided that Pakistan’s civil and military leadership should take integrated and unified stance during its dialogue with the US. (Pak Observer)
