12 Pakistani Taliban militants killed in south Afghanistan

Islamabad has repeatedly said it wants to see a stable Afghanistan, and is prepared to do whatever Afghan leaders ask as they pursue a peace deal with the Taliban.

At least twelve Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants have been killed during intense clashes with Afghan border forces in Afghanistan’s troubled southern province of Kandahar.

Provincial police chief, General Abdul Razaq, said the TTP members tried to storm a border checkpoint in the Arghistan District of the province. Border forces confronted the militants, killing a large number of them.

He added that the dead bodies of the Taliban militants along with their weapons and explosives were left in the area after the fierce gun battle, and some of the gunmen managed to flee back into Pakistan.

There were no immediate reports of casualties on the side of Afghan forces.
