Local Taliban leader arrested in Afghan

A local Taliban leader and two other insurgents were arrested during an operation in southern Afghan province of Kandahar on Monday, said the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

"An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban leader and two other insurgents during an operation in Dand district, Kandahar province, today," the ISAF forces said in a press release.

The leader had operational control over a group of insurgents responsible for improvised explosive device (IED) and complex attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in the province 450 km south of Kabul, the release said, adding "He also facilitates the movement of weapons in Kandahar City and is involved in the construction of IEDs,"

In addition, the joint forces also captured a Taliban leader and two other insurgents during separate operations in southern Helmand and northern Jawzjan provinces earlier in the day and Sunday.

The Taliban insurgent group, which fighting an insurgency of more than one decade, has yet to make comments.
