Afghan prosecutor killed in bombing

According to a UN report released in February, 2,754 civilians were killed and 4,805 injured in violence in the war-hit country last year.

A district prosecutor in Afghanistan was killed in a bomb blast Sunday in the southern province of Helmand, a government spokesman said.

Marja district prosecutor Mohammad Lal Hakimi was travelling to office around 7 a.m., when his car was struck by a roadside bomb, spokesman Omar Zhwak told.

He blamed the Taliban for the attack.
