Global Fund provides $20m for Afghan Health System, statement

The minister stated that the Global Fund is a one of most significant donors for health sector of Afghanistan, particularly in fighting against AIDs, TB and Malaria diseases and strengthening of health system in Afghanistan.

Global Fund pledged to provide $20 million for Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) to strengthen health system and fight AIDS, tuberculosis (TB) and Malaria diseases in Afghanistan, as statement said.

Minister of Public Health, Dr. Suraya Dalil on Saturday signed a grant agreement with Mr. Lucc Occhini, Regional Director of the Global Fund, while appreciating for this generously assistance, asked its further contribution and collaboration toward health sector of Afghanistan.

The minister stated that the Global Fund is a one of most significant donors for health sector of Afghanistan, particularly in fighting against AIDs, TB and Malaria diseases and strengthening of health system in Afghanistan.

Dr. Dalil, while welcoming the senior delegation’s visit to Afghanistan, thanked for their trust in providing this financial assistance for her ministry and promised that she is striving to spend this fund in effective way of the health sector.

Meanwhile Mr. Lucc occhini, Regional Director of the Global Fund expressed the long-term commitments of the Global Fund with Government of Afghanistan, particularly in the health sector, adding, “Our cooperation and collaborations will be continued after 2014 with health sector of Afghanistan”.

Likewise, Dr. Noorsha Kamawal, head of health system strengthening department for MoPH, expressing his gratitude in respect to Global Fund’s technical and financial assistances with health sector of Afghanistan, called this financial assistance so important toward strengthening of health system in Afghanistan and emphasized on joint cooperation for improvement of health quality services in the country.

It is pertinent to mention, based on this fund, the health management information system will be improved, 28 community health Nurses schools in 28 provinces will be established, 1020 female community nurse will be trained in within 2 years, 5 well-equipped reference laboratories in Balkh, Nangarhar, Herat, Kandahar and Kabul provinces will established.
