Afghanistan, Iran and India will hold a strategic trilateral meet on Sunday in Tehran

The 16th NAM summit will be attended by 120 representatives from the around the world .

Afghan president Hamid Karzai accompanied by a delegation 70 officials is due to visit Iran to attend the Non-Allied Movement (NAM) summit in Tehran.

The 16th NAM summit is expected to be organized on coming Thursday in Iran’s capital Tehran. 

In the meantime ahead of the NAM summit, India, Iran and Afghanistan will hold a strategic trilateral meet on Sunday in Tehran in which key issues, including regional security and economic situation and best utilisation of Chabahar port, a significant commercial venture, will be discussed.

Sources in Afghan presidential palace said president Hamid Karzai will be accompanied by Afghan foreign affairs minister Zalmai Rassoul, Rangin Dadfar Spanta National Security Advisor and two other Afghan ministers during his visit to Tehran.

The sources further added a number of 70 members delegation will leave for Iran by tomorrow while president Karzai will leave for Tehran on Wednesday.


The meeting, initiated by the Iranian side, will also look into the report by the Indian Ports Association (IPA) on various commercial activities which could be taken up through the port in the sanction-hit country.
