4 Afghan civilians killed by militants in eastern province

The motive behind the killing is not clear so far.

"A total of four civilians were kidnapped by militants Tuesday evening from Mullah Khil area of Jalrez district and their bullet- riddle bodies were found in Salman-e-Fars area of the district Wednesday morning," spokesman Shahidullah Shahid told.

The motive behind the killing is not clear so far, he said, adding that the police have launched an investigation into the incident.

He blamed Taliban for the killing, however, the Taliban insurgent group, which announced the launching of an annual spring offensive from May 3 against Afghan and NATO forces, has not to make comments.

The Taliban has warned the civilians to stay away from official gatherings, military convoys and centers regarded as the legitimate targets by militants besides warning people against supporting government and foreign troops.

Taliban killed five civilians who were working as daily wagers in a joint Afghan and NATO-led coalition force military camp in Jalrez district on July 21.

A total of 3,021 Afghan civilians were killed in 2011, an 8 percent rise from the previous year, according to the United Nations annual report released in Kabul in February.
