Al Qaeda Leader Killed in Afghan Operation

Hanzallah was a Saudi national and Al Qaeda leader who acted as a military advisor to insurgents in Kunar, Nuristan and Laghman provinces.

An Al Qaeda leader was killed in a joint Afghan and Nato troops operation in eastern Kunar province on Sunday, Isaf said on Tuesday.

"Afghan and coalition forces confirmed that the Al Qaeda leader known as Hanzallah was killed during a security operation in Watapur district of Kunar province, Sunday," Isaf said in a statement.

Hanzallah was a Saudi national and Al Qaeda leader who acted as a military advisor to insurgents in Kunar, Nuristan and Laghman provinces and provided them with improvised explosive device training, the statement said.

He was one of several Al Qaeda terrorists killed during the security operation, it added.

Meanwhile, Afghan and Nato troops launched a military operation in Barmal district of Paktika province on Tuesday in which several more insurgents were killed via airstrike, the statement said.

"Afghan and coalition forces identified a group of armed insurgents. The security force engaged the armed insurgents with a precision airstrike, killing several of them," it said.
