Taliban launched coordinated suicide attacks in Kabul

In the meantime similar coordinated attacks were carried out in Paktia, Logar and Nangarhar provinces of Afghanistan.

The militants targeted a hotel, Afghan parliament and a number of other diplomatic buildings in Kabul including Jalalabad airport in eastern Nangarhar province, KHAAMA reported.

Dawlat Waziri deputy spokesman for Afghan defense ministry said at least 5 insurgents who were resisting Afghan security forces in Pul-e-Charkhi were killed however gun shots were still heard in Sherpoor area.

Taliban militants group claimed responsibility behind the incident and said several suicide bombers were sent by Taliban group to carry out suicide bomb attacks in capital Kabul Kabul, Paktia, Logar and Jalalabad city.

A number of embassies including British embassy, German embassy and Japan embassy were attacked by missiles however officials said there were no casualties following the attacks.

Afghan parliament was also attacked by militants. An Afghan parliament member said he also started fighting the militants to defend the parliament building.

In the meantime US ambassador in capital Kabul Ryan Crocker said a rapid reaction by Afghan security forces expressed the developments among the Afghan security institutions.

Ryan Crocker said Taliban militants are good in announcements rather actions however Taliban group announced they have started their summer offensive by carrying out suicide attacks today and similar attacks will be carried out in the future as well.

Afghan interior ministry officials said at least 16 militants had taken part in the attacks at Kabul, Paktia, Logar and Jalalabad city.

Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqi said at least 1 or 2 of the militants are still resisting the Afghan security forces in capital Kabul and the remaining militants have been killed in other provinces of Afghanistan.

He also said, a suicide bomber was detained by Afghan security forces before carrying out attack after he was injured by Afghan security forces.

According to Sediq Sediqi at least 9 civilians in Paktia and Nangarhar provinces and 14 Afghan police forces were injured following the incidents.

Mr. Sediqi said there were no reports of civilians casualties in capital Kabul so far.

Afghan security forces cordoned off several roads in Wazir Akbar Khan and Afghan parliament in western part of capital Kabul.

Taliban militants carried out suicide bomb attacks and engaged Afghan security forces in Wazir Akbar Khan where majority of the embassies and other diplomatic organizations are based.

At least 7 explosions were heard in capital Kabul and a newly built hotel was also partly damaged during the clashes.

An Afghan security official said, the Russian embassy and Afghan parliament was also attacked by missiles by at least 6 militants who had taken positions near the Afghan parliament building.

Reports also suggest at least 2 missiles were fired towards British embassy in Kabul. In the meantime Afghan police officials said a number of militants occupied a building in Pul-e-Alam district and started resisting the Afghan security forces in eastern Logar province.

There were also reports of clashes at Gardez city in eastern Paktia province
